Autoroute Toll Calculator

French autoroutes are run by private operators (Vinci, APRR, Sanef, ASF). Tolls are real distance × class — not generic "€0.10/km" estimates. Pick the right route and the right télépéage plan.

What this solves

Two things most drivers get wrong: 1) the toll from Paris to Nice is not €0.10 × 933 km — it's €76.80 one-way for a class 1 (because A8 has higher km cost than A6); 2) Télépéage Liber-t has a €1.70/month subscription that doesn't pay back if you only drive twice a year.

Total trip cost = toll + fuel + (optional) Télépéage subscription. We compute all three and tell you the exact breakeven point for the badge.

How to read the result

Toll

From the operator's 2026 published rate. Class 1 covers standard cars. Real-time: autoroutes.fr has live calculation.

Fuel

Distance × consumption × local price. Toll-area autoroute service stations are 15–20% more expensive than supermarket stations just off the autoroute — try to exit and refill at a Leclerc/Auchan.

Télépéage

Liber-t badge €1.70/month + €0 reservation badge. Pays back when you cross ≥3 toll plazas/year. Also gives 5–10% discounts on some operators' subscription plans.

Limitations

FAQ

Why are French tolls so high compared to Germany?

Because French autoroutes are mostly privately built and operated (Vinci Autoroutes, APRR, Sanef). The "toll" is essentially the operator recouping the construction loan. Germany funds its Autobahn network from general taxation. Italian autostrade are similar to France.

Can I avoid tolls with the "D" roads?

Yes, but it doubles the driving time (sometimes triples). A Paris-Nice trip on autoroutes: ~9h. Via D907/D902 departmental roads: ~18h with countless roundabouts and no villages to refuel. Useful only for short scenic detours (e.g. A75 Millau viaduct area).

Is the A75 Millau Viaduct free?

Yes — the A75 Clermont-Ferrand → Béziers is toll-free. The Viaduct itself is the world's tallest bridge. A great budget scenic drive linking Paris to Mediterranean without tolls, but adds 1–2 hours vs A7/A9.
